Crafting a Valentine Heart

Learn something new every day and this project was just that something new for today.  A few weeks ago, I came across a YouTuber, Mr Congeniality, on Twitter.   By profession he was a wedding planner and knew his stuff when it came to flowers.   I saw his video when he created fabulous centerpiece using white silk flowers. Gorgeous creation!  He had it done lickety split.  So, I took it upon myself to inquire if he did anything with wreaths, as I have always had an interest in making them.  Since he worked with flowers, I figured might as well ask.   He replied yes and was planning on making another YouTube video.  Jackpot!  So I waited and sure enough he made a post of a beautiful Valentine heart wreath video with fantastic instructions.  Valentine Wreath, paper flower wreath,j paper crafting

Of to Michael’s to purchase what I needed.   The flowers for this wreath were made with cardstock and the bow of burlap which was really perfect together.  As luck would have it, Michaels was out of the burlap ribbon so I opted for a very pretty off-white gauzy ribbon with wire edges encased in gold.  The material itself had a great sheen to it and with the shiny edges gave a good pop to the variegated red hues being used for the flowers.  Next, I was off for the foam board to be used for the base of the wreath.  Mr. Congeniality mentioned he purchased his foam board at The Dollar Store.  Thanks for the tip.  So, I hopped across the way and grabbed a foam board for myself  and a few other things, i.e. Progresso Soup for $1!  paper flowers, Valentine roses, paper crafting

I was ready to buckle down and get this project in the works….until life started happening.  Several things came up and got in the way before I was able to finally settle down at the table to accomplish this project.  I think a week went by … ugh.  Now, it is crunch time.  Last evening I started and today I finished.

I’ve made fabric flower for the headpieces of my daughter’s bride’s maids so kind of sort knew what I might be getting myself into.  However, rather than a needle and thread, I was up against a glue gun.  Aaaaaaaaaa!  Glue guns hate me.  My poor finger tips kept getting glue on them and oooooo boy does that hurt. At one point,  the glue gun fell from my burning fingers.   Thought I clobbered my Little Dog with it.  Phew, it missed him.  Valentine wreath, paper craftingThere are very few things I do with the glue gun and they are very quick uses.  This project was quite to the contrary.  OUCH!  The glue consumption is high on this project.  By the end of the wreath, I was cutting, curling and even gluing like a pro.  I do question if I have finger prints on the tips a a couple of my fingers.

The project was well worth it.  The outcome is exquisite.  When all is said and done, a few burns were worth it.   I will be making other heart wreaths in the future using different papers and different colors.  Was wondering how it would come out with double-sided printed paper.  That would be a very country-ish effect like calico and gingham.   A little Easter Bunny might be cute instead of the bow.  Only your imagination is your limitation with this one.

I have posted Mr Congeniality’s YouTube video below. Valentine Wreath, paper flower wreath, paper crafting Go ahead and try it using your imagination.  Let me know what you come up with.

In my heart I know this is the best day of the year so far, as I have endeavored to learn something new and successfully accomplished my goal.
